TTaofeek Okoya capitalizes on niche in market for African dolls.

A Nigerian entrepreneur is making a name for himself manufacturing African dolls, the first of their kind in Nigeria. Taofeek Okoya says this is an area that has been neglected for a long time with most parents buying foreign products instead of locally produced dolls. Clementine Logan has more.

    This is such a unique answer to Nigerian parents having to purchase White Dolls for their Black Children. When Dr. Clark
    asked the little Black boys and girls that he was working with to show that kids suffered from racism for them being born Black, each child picked the White Doll over the Black Doll, because they had heard over and over that Blacks were ugly, dumb, and stupid from Whites. By the mid sixties I was yelling, “I am Black and I am proud,” thanks to James Brown, and wearing an Afro. We as young Blacks began to see and know the true Beauty of Blackness. Today, I am proud to be Black and thanks to the business man who brought the Black Dolls manufacturing company to Nigeria. This is special to me, because my DNA showed that Nigerian Blood is deep within my family.
