There are not a lot of shows starring black people on network television. That is why when we get one we have such high expectations. We want to be portrayed in a possible “Cosbylike manner” (pre the allegations). Empire takes a look at success from a different lens. It takes you on a trip to the other side of the street. Where deals are cut and people are too. So when we get a show like Empire we have the need to analyze each and every character and try to line that character up with reality. Empire is not based in reality. It is simply a diversion. Sure it takes on topical discussions, but in the final analysis it is simply television.
