If not for family members and others who wanted their share of the cash donations, amputee sachet water hawker Mary Daniel’s lies would not have been exposed.

Miss Daniel claimed that her parents were dead, but some of her relatives seeking a share of the over N25m donated to her by Nigerians, said she lied.

The 26-year-old also did not say the truth about being an orphan.

A source close to the Lagos State government told The Nation that “some of these discrepancies started emerging on her birthday. Some things were observed that did not add up. Then, the strange calls. She also refused for her child to be brought to Lagos”.

The source added: “Later she came up and said she wanted to go alone to bring the child and those managing her refused since it was not safe to travel. Then, she was taken to where she should learn a skill but she refused. It was clear she just wanted to leave the state. With the information at the disposal of the state government, she was disallowed from travelling alone.

“She was first handed over to the Social Welfare Department but when they complained about accommodation and the Igala traditional ruler in Lagos indicated interest to take her, she was handed over to him.”

When The Nation contacted the leader of Igala community in Lagos State, Chief Sanni Yakubu Ejima, he confirmed that Miss Daniel was in his custody.

The Special Adviser, Office of Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, in a statement yesterday, said Miss Daniel was kept in protective custody to shield her from possible fraudsters, adding that the ultimate desire of government was to ensure she became a responsible citizen.

According to Adebowale, “she now has the resources to take care of herself and her baby. She can now have a new lease of life”.

She explained that the police were brought in to demonstrate that the state had taken good care of Ms. Daniel while its officials and to ensure her safety thereafter.

Princess Adebowale added that a committee would oversee Miss Daniel’s rehabilitation and ensure that the donated funds were judiciously utilised for the improvement of her standard of living.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso denied that the state was preventing Ms. Daniel from accessing her money.

He said: “We have handed over Mary Daniel to representatives of her Igala, Kogi State community here in Lagos. The handing over was done in the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Justice; Youth and Social Development, and police and a Non-Governmental Organisation.

“Government took the step to shield Ms. Daniel from possible fraudsters who may target the funds donated to her by well-meaning Nigerians. She is also free to set up her dream supermarket in Lagos since it was here that fortune smiled on her. This is a confirmation that Lagos is a land of hope and opportunities. A committee was also set up to ensure the funds are utilised judiciously.”

Lagos state hands over amputee sachet water hawker to her kinsmen

Akahinews Apr 29, 2021

The Lagos State Government says it has handed over the amputee sachet water hawker, Mary Daniel, to leaders of Igala Community in Lagos State.

Princess Aderemi Adebowale, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Civic Engagement, made this known in a statement signed by Mr Sola Ogunmosunle, Director, Public Affairs Department, Office of Civic Engagement, on Thursday, April 29, in Lagos.

Adebowale said that the state government would continue to protect all residents in the state, especially the vulnerable.

Mary Daniel, 27, who went viral and received donations from Nigerians, had been in the custody of the state government in the past two weeks.

Adebowale said the state government did this to shield Daniel from possible fraudsters who might target the funds donated to her by well-meaning Nigerians.

She said that Daniel was handed over to a committee comprising the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

She said that other committee members at the handing over was Mr Sanni Ejima, Leader of Igala Community in Lagos; Divisional Police Officer, Alausa and representative of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police. Adebowale explained that the police were present at the handover to show that the state had taken proper care of Daniel, while in its custody, and to ensure her safety thereafter.

She said that the committee was to oversee Daniel’s rehabilitation and ensure that the donated funds were judiciously utilised to improve her standard of living and that of her baby.

According to her, the ultimate desire of the state government is to ensure that Daniel becomes a civically responsible citizen in the state.

Adebowale said: “She now has the resources to take care of herself and her baby and have a new lease of life.”

Recall that the Lagos State Government had denied report that it withheld the N25million donated to Mary Daniel. The Lagos state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso said the state had no plans to deny Daniel of her N25 million donation.

According to Omotosho, what the government did was to ensure that she was not molested and safe to do whatever she intended to do with the money raised for her.

He added that Mary is free to set up her dream supermarket store in Lagos State since it was in the state that fortune smiled on her.

NIGERIA O! -OYO STATE GOVERNOR IS PERFORMING O!

April 28, 2021

See What Governor Makinde Has Done In His State, No Wonder He Is Rated As One Of The Best Governors In Nigeria
Tahir’s blogApr 27, 2021

Governor Makinde of Oyo State has been rated as one of the best governors in Nigeria. He has done what other Governors have not thought is right to do.

If you could recall, Governor Makinde was the only and first governor in Nigeria who refused to sign into law, the procurement of vehicles for official use when he came into power. He ordered all his cabinet members to use their private vehicles and he led by example. He used his own private car all through his first tenure and he was supported by his cabinet members.

He is also the first governor in Nigeria that ordered that all workers in his state were paid 13 months salary and it has to be paid alongside their December salaries so that they could celebrate the Christmas well enough.

Here again, in order to make sure that the residents of his state are secured in the spate of the lingering Insecurity situation in the country, he has led a group of government officials to all borders across the state, especially the exit and the entrance borders, borded all the neighbouring, to see that attackers have no free entry and exit into any part of the State.

The essence of his visit to the border is to inspect the security joint base in Mamu, the border between Oyo and Ogun State.

The governor, while inspecting the base located at Mamu Village, Oluyole Local Government Area, a border area between Oyo and Ogun State border, said that the base is a pilot project and that the intention of the government is to secure all entry and exit points to Oyo State.

This is a good job and it’ s important that other Governors should emulate this in order to reduce the Insecurity situation in the country.

Singer, songwriter and entertainer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni reveals in a live chat why she featured just Davido in her very first album.

Her debut album ‘WONDALAND’ was crafted for over two years in cities like London, New York, Orlando, Ondo, Lagos and Abuja; and features guest appearances from DMW boss, Davido.

When asked why she featured just one person in her 17-track album, the talented singer who has won quite a number of awards excitedly said: “It had to be Davido. Yo! Davido is such an amazing guy and you know…Big ups to everybody else, cause everybody else shows me love.

“But David is special because I’ve known David since Atlanta. And I remember when I met him in a studio session and he said to me, in his exact words, he said: “Go back to Nigeria and you’re going to be a huge star.”

So, he motivated me with those words and it was just right for me to do something with him for my first album,” among other things.Tags:newsentertainmentshttps://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-5089981496810613&output=html&h=300&slotname=6922905262&adk=1891673696&adf=2398551397&pi=t.ma~as.6922905262&w=360&lmt=1619547692&rafmt=1&psa=1&format=360×300&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.thenationonlineng.net%2Fforum%2Fteni-it-had-to-be-davido%3Fxg_source%3Dtwitter&flash=0&fwr=1&fwrattr=true&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&sfro=1&wgl=1&dt=1619547686960&bpp=16&bdt=10219&idt=5706&shv=r20210422&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D2c465225af2e9d73%3AT%3D1618597099%3AS%3DALNI_MYLfI0Ib-ZR4y47y_ap-3wYkDAt1Q&prev_fmts=360×300%2C360x300&correlator=8427777453744&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=343615579.1610969764&ga_sid=1619547693&ga_hid=1889228323&ga_fc=0&u_tz=60&u_his=1&u_java=0&u_h=800&u_w=360&u_ah=800&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=0&ady=1784&biw=360&bih=656&scr_x=0&scr_y=122&eid=42530672%2C44739990&oid=3&pvsid=4196091183307409&pem=748&ref=https%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FnNdx2e7cYM%3Famp%3D1&eae=0&fc=896&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C712%2C360%2C712&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=128&bc=23&ifi=3&uci=a!3&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=BUlHmUJxSl&p=http%3A//community.thenationonlineng.net&dtd=5732https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-5089981496810613&output=html&h=300&slotname=5726687095&adk=891630145&adf=529186430&pi=t.ma~as.5726687095&w=360&lmt=1619547692&rafmt=1&psa=1&format=360×300&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.thenationonlineng.net%2Fforum%2Fteni-it-had-to-be-davido%3Fxg_source%3Dtwitter&flash=0&fwr=1&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&sfro=1&wgl=1&dt=1619547686976&bpp=17&bdt=10235&idt=5749&shv=r20210422&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D2c465225af2e9d73%3AT%3D1618597099%3AS%3DALNI_MYLfI0Ib-ZR4y47y_ap-3wYkDAt1Q&prev_fmts=360×300%2C360x300%2C360x300&correlator=8427777453744&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=343615579.1610969764&ga_sid=1619547693&ga_hid=1889228323&ga_fc=0&u_tz=60&u_his=1&u_java=0&u_h=800&u_w=360&u_ah=800&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=0&ady=2157&biw=360&bih=656&scr_x=0&scr_y=122&eid=42530672%2C44739990&oid=3&pvsid=4196091183307409&pem=748&ref=https%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FnNdx2e7cYM%3Famp%3D1&eae=0&fc=896&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C712%2C360%2C712&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=128&bc=23&ifi=4&uci=a!4&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=OUErZxn1Rr&p=http%3A//community.thenationonlineng.net&dtd=5774
