Book World: How police violence leads to Black 'rebellion'

– – – An old African proverb cautions, “Until the lion tells his side of the story, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” In “America on Fire: The Untold History of Police Violence and Black Rebellion Since the 1960s,” Elizabeth Hinton debunks an account of policing and violence in the United States that is as popularly accepted as it is historically inaccurate.Read More  ❯

A rapper was escorted out of his high school graduation after throwing thousands of dollars in the air.

ATLANTA (Meredith/WGCL) — An Atlanta rapper “made it rain” money at his high school graduation, but the excitement was short-lived.

A viral video shows the 18-yeard-old, known as Metro Marrs, throwing money in the air while walking across the stage at Langston Hughes High School last Friday.

“You see what 2021 pocketed?” Marrs says in the video. “Y’all feel what’s going on?”null

In another video obtained by WGCL-TV, on-site police officers can be seen escorting the teen out of the building as he hands over the remaining cash to his father.

Fellow grads and audience members then began chanting: “Let him go, let him go.”https://115f207006e28f31f1a2c4fe09e57e2a.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

Marrs signed a record deal with Quality Control in October.

Despite reports claiming Marrs faced a citation for inciting a riot during the graduation ceremony, the Fulton County School District said the teen was not arrested.

“There were no arrests made at Langston Hughes High’s Sunday graduation,” the district’s statement reads. “The student was escorted off the premises. The incident occurred at the end of the program and, other than a slight delay did not impact the ceremony. We are proud of the graduates at Langston Hughes High and celebrate their accomplishments.”

During an interview on the Morning Hustle radio show on Wednesday, Marrs said he came to the graduation with $10,000 stuffed in his pants.

“I couldn’t even throw all the money because it was so much,” he said. “I was just trying to share the love, you know what I’m saying, to the seniors because we’ve been in a pandemic for like over a year. So, we ain’t really been able to see each other. So, I was just trying to give back to my peers, Class of 2021.”null
